The manga is still ongoing thank god for that so I’ll be looking forwards to reading more chapters. The art really is great in my opinion and that’s important, because that’s one of the major contributing factors that make me decide whether or not to read something. Yes, I’m very well aware that I’m a bit picky. -___-
For me it was first a bit of a surprise to see the uke as Souichi and the seme as Morinaga but as I kept on reading I realized that that’s how it’s supposed to be. Souichi makes the perfect uke with his overly sensitive reactions, he really does, and Morinaga as the overly protective and adorable seme just adds to the greatness.
Morinaga: the seme, he’s really and truly so honest and open about his feeling that I can’t help but love his character. He has a pretty hard past and all but that doesn’t seem to stop his attempt at love again. He’s a bit overly horny all the time to be honest…but he does try to tone it down when the situation calls for it, other than that he jumps at Souichi whenever he has the chance. xD Really and truly he's the real deal and deserves his place as a seme since he was able to top his extremely homophobic senpai. Now that's skills for ya~
Souichi: I simply adore his embarrassed and shy reactions whenever they do something “inappropriate” and he as much as he always rejects to the idea of sleeping with a man, in the end he always gives in…well not ALL the time but most of the time at least. He’s a real homophobe which brings so much humor and sympathy for the story. His affections are also mostly shown through his actions rather than his words because he’s not good at expressing himself. He does say things unconsciously, like “you’re the only one I’d allow to do this to me” and such, but personally he doesn’t think much of it, mostly because he doesn’t know what he’s said but for Morinaga it means so much more than he could ever imagine. That’s just really sweet. :]
The manga is explicit enough to keep you hooked but not so much explicit that it would be porn. Mostly the sex scenes in Takanaga’s work are filled with emotions and for Morinaga it’s a way of expressing his love to Souichi and it truly is beautiful if nothing more.
Personally, there are only a few mangas that make my heart throb as I’m reading them. It’s like I feel what they feel, in a sense. When, for example, Souichi tells Morinaga to get lost and that he never wants to see his face again, I actually felt pain when I read those words. I know it sounds a bit odd but it’s hard to explain…hmm, I guess that what I’m trying to say is that if a story can affect me emotionally so much that I myself feel what the characters are feeling then that’s what separates a good manga from a great one.
This manga truly does that, whenever I feel a twinge of pain or a sigh of relief it is always caused by the characters’ speech, emotions and actions within the manga. Hinako Takanaga really is capable of creating stories through which she is able to affect her readers. I’ve read some of her other work’s too and some of them had the same effect. Kimi ga Koi ni Ochiru was one of her works which also made my heart twinge. It really was a great read especially since there was a good BL love triangle. ;] (Kimi da Koi ni Oboreru is the sequel to it)
She also wrote and illustrated Liberty Liberty! and Croquis which were both also very pleasant reads. I personally liked Libery Liberty! a bit more, but that’s just me. :] Some of her other work include: Benkyou Shinasai!, Turning Point, Dekiru Otoko ga Suki Nanda and Bukiyou na Silent
Anyway back to Koisuru Boukun, the manga keeps you hooked, it really, really does, which is why I’ve downloaded it onto my computer just so I can read it over and over again. This is one of the few mangas that I don’t mind reading repeatedly along with Yamane Ayano’s Finder series and Aitsu no Daihonmei (and some others). I will most probably rant about them all later. :]
Gotta love the internet. Banzai Banzai Banzaiii~!
