He'd forgotton it was Halloween. Otherwise Guppy might have not taken the kids upstairs. As it is, he's just helping Coral feed herself, watching the little girl scoop mashed potato into her mouth. Fry, having finished his dinner, is playing in the corner of the room.
The ghost appears. Not a dream this time, but just like that, Jas Sandhu stands in the room, in translucent form. Guppy drops the baby spoon in alarm.
"Do you have to sneak up on us like that?" he asks. "And before you start, if you've got anything unpleasant to say you can wait until I take the kids home."
The ghost blinks, as though thrown off balance, then glares.
"Since when did you think you could speak to me like that?" Jas snaps.
"Since I had these two little people to look out for." Guppy replies.
Fry, meanwhile, has stood up, and is busy poking the ghost of his grandfather curiously.
"Hand goes froo, hand goes out. Hand goes froo, hand goes out."
"What's he doing?" Jas asks, bewildered.
"He's observing that ghosts can't hurt him." Guppy says.
"Hand goes froo, hand goes out. Hand goes froo, hand goes out."
Jas stares down at the little boy, who continues in his observation.
"He's brave. We might have got on."
And with that, he disappears.
"Pwned him." Fry declares. "Can I have some ice cream please?"
"Ode-im." Coral babbles.
"Yes, I think some ice cream can be arranged." Guppy says, picking up the spoon again. "Let's go home and get some."
With one little person holding each hand, he turns his back on where the ghost was.
