It's not his job any more. But when Guppy came into the staff room at the end of his shift, and spotted a major incident on television, his mind went immediately to one thing. St James' hospital's emergency department is closed.
He jumps in the car and heads down to the scene. It's still chaotic; paramedics, police, injured kids everywhere. Old habits kick in, and he starts doing what he can for them with the available kit.
"Guppy, help!" Dixie calls from another casualty. He moves quickly over to her, and the patient struggling to breathe.
"Have the police got the shooter?" he asks, as he examines the boy's chest.
"They shot him, but he got away." Dixie says, applying compression to an abdominal wound.
