Plan goes awry.
Ok, so I didn't make it to Michigan.
Friday night, I was out doing last minute shopping when I get a call from Dad. Apparently, Shirley had an appointment to see someone in Cleveland, OH on Monday morning. They needed to leave Sunday evening to travel down there and stay overnight in a hotel so they could arrive at the appointment in good time. I don't know what this is regarding, but it's something she needs to do before she leaves her job at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (they are buying her out to leave her job this month). Most of her healthcare is well supplied in Ann Arbor, so I'm concerned that she has to go to Cleveland for whatever the problem is. I was still planning to go to Michigan Saturday, but with the visit shortened to about 24 hours, and the snow on the road (especially the heavy lake-effect snow going past Lake Michigan), decided to stay home. I drove back from Michigan one or two Christmases ago in the snow and freezing rain, and it was miserable going, not something I cared to repeat. I called Saturday morning after checking the Weather Channel to tell Dad and Shirley I was chickening out. It's OK. I'll try again later next year in better traveling weather, or Dad and Shirley will come down to visit me. At least I got in a little bit of a visit back in October for Dad's 70th b-day.
