I packed my first box this afternoon [containing a number of books and videos of The X-Files], so I guess that's it; I really am moving. I imagine The Fear will begin to descend over the next week. But at least it won't be over the "M" word, as for once I appear to have my finances sorted well in advance. That's nice, I like how I can pull it through when I have to. Besides, I've timed by journey home from work, and takes a mere thirty minutes in the early-evening rush hour. Wonderful stuff.
On Wednesday night Ailsa & I went to to the launch party for
Ruby Slippers Records, at the "charming" [read: low-ceiling dive] Colours bar in Camden Town. The premise? Free entry, free booze and music from
Miss Black America and
The Priory. Well, go on then..
Between us, we managed 16 drinks [11-5 to Ailsa, the alcoholic] and in total £3000 was drunk in less than ninety minutes by around 150 people. The Priory were ok, passed the time slightly, and Miss Black America tore the place up. Well, as much as is possible in a venue that doesn't actually have a stage, and where the band play in an alcove adjacent to the bar. Much fun was had, and I ran into a bunch of reprobates I don't see nearly often enough [
Georgie,
amoe &
turkeyphant chiefly, but there were others] and my throat, already damaged by drunken singing to The Cooper Temple Clause, The Killers and Pixies at Reading, took another battering. I ended up crawling into work a half-hour late the next day with a nightmare hangover, but damn was it worth it..
