children: your parents let you down. your teachers let you down. the government lets you drown.

As my Truck Eight is no closer to being finished than the last time I was drunk and writing in here, I thought I could at least interupt my "busy" evening of drinking, playing Call To Power 2 and singing badly along to records to share with you this; I bought the BEST T-SHIRT EVER at the aforementioned festival. I really didn't like Economics - despite being told that, as I got a 'B' at GCSE maths and was doing Government & Politics and History as my other A-Levels, I "should have no problems with it", I had real problems with most of the maths involved. When, after half a term, I wanted to quit and switch to another subject before it became too late, I was told it "would be a waste of the work I'd put in so far" and that was that. Bloody private school. That being said, bizarrely I got my highest grade in it [a 'D'], although I'm going to put this down to me being chronically unable to write decent essays and, while my other subjects were entirely essay based, a third of my Economics grade was based on a multiple-choice exam.

think it's easier to pick up creative subjects once you're out of the rhythm of school life, though.

I'm going to agree with you here; although in my case I think it's mostly because I found structured education so suffering to my creativity and general interest in the subjects. As a perfect example, I've read more books in the last 2 years since I sorted my life out and started working than I did in my last 5 years of education, and it's only recently that I've begun to regain confidence in my writing abilities. I'm still not at the point where what is in my head comes out on the screen, but I feel I'm going to get there eventually..

Are you a member of doing_words?

I am now :)

I assume you've already seen it, but if you've not, I suggest you have a look at the NaNoWriMo website - my entry last year, whilst languishing unfinished on my hard drive, was probably the first time in my adult life where I've been happy with what I've written. I'm planning to enter again this year and actually finish!
