Strange Lights

On the way up to Chicago it was after dark as I was traveling through Indiana north of Indianapolis.  Watching traffic and listening to an audio book CD*.   When off to my right - the east - syncronized flashing lights caught my eye.  Lights a distance above the ground - as best as I could tell in the dark.  Lights that would be on the top of a tower of some kind.

However I could see twenty or thirty, all blinking on/off/on/off at exactly the same time.

Strange.  Usually when there are blinking lights on towers (or on the side of emergency vehicles, or....) they are not perfectly syncronized.  They'll blink at the same time for a few seconds, but then one set of lights will get ahead of the other for a longer while, then they'll get back in sync for a few seconds.

These lights, as long as I could watch them, were perfectly in sync the entire time.  I noted the mile marker in I-65:  188.  I meant to ask my middle brother (MB) about what might be there.  It was dark and all I could see was the flashing red lights on top of a larger number of poles/towers/buildings spaced in a not quite regular pattern.  Due to the time spent on Younger Brother's (YB) roof, never got a chance to ask MB about the lights.

On the way back to SC - during daylight hours - saw the source of the lights.  A windmill farm.  As in generating electricity windmills.  Lots and lots of them.  Near the interstate, farther from the interstate, to the west and to the east.  I hadn't noticed the ones to the west - they were much further away from the road than the eastern ones were.  Here's picture of one.

Mystery solved.
