Balls Cabaret & Steampunk Theater at Southern Theater

Sep 30, 2010 14:58

Balls Cabaret is an open stage performance each week on Saturday night at 11:55 pm. The only rule is that the performers must be sober. Admission is $5.

The line-up each week is usually a mix of stand-up, music and dance. The venue is often used by performers of local fame to test out new material.

The audience is generally expected to be forgiving and generous with their applause. Any criticism should be constructive.

I really enjoy the 'backstage' feel of the event. The line between audience and performer is purposely blurred. Aint nobuddy here but us carney folk.

There is also a free lottery for a bag of Dove chocolate at the end of the night!

Further down the road, next June, The Southern will host a number of Steampunk theater shows!

"Steampunk Dreams: Imaginary Technologies of the Victorian Era is a collection of new adapted work based on classics of 19th century fantasy and science fiction by writers such as Jules Verne and H. G. Wells. The Twin Cities theater luminaries Hardcover Theater, Joshua Scrimshaw and Upright Egg will present each production in authentic steampunk style"
