After having to reschedule dialysis appointments 3 of the last 4 times I finally just requested a permanent change from 7 am on MWF to 11am MWF.
Ginger was far too groggy to get up 90 minutes before the appointment so that we had the extra time a wheelchair-bound person needs to do what a biped can do in 30 minutes.
And then there were the days when both of us slept poorly because of pain, discomfort or side effects due to meds. Having your entire blood supply sucked out and squirted back into your body is exhausting enough without extra complications. It felt like we never had the chance to rest up from the previous ordeal.
Again I encourage anyone reading this to please come to visit us. Ginger is afraid that her ability to communicate clearly will degrade faster than her physical health. You can follow VisitGinger on Twitter for updates on when she is available and eager to see the faces that she's grown to love and care for.
Please, please, please don't put it off. Later may be too late.
If I already have you in my cell phone, feel free to call if you are worried about dropping by at a bad time. If you think I don't have you programed into my cell, text me your number so that I can correct that oversight.
If my cell doesn't recognize you, I may call back immediately after listening to your voicemail, or it may be several hours if Ginger has me running errands.
I would like company when running errands and I'd sure experience less free floating anxiety if someone was with Ginger when I was out of the house.
Much much thanks to Michael B. for helping me get Ginger back home from dialysis today. On the trip over, my right kidney gave me a few sharp warning twinges. After the 37th time that Ginger insisted that I'd put her shirt on inside-out it felt like someone had buried a machete in my lower torso. I finally just apologized for putting the shirt on wrong (it wasn't) and begged Ginger to let the little details go and focus on getting her through the dialysis procedure. She'd then demand to why I didn't ask the dialysis tech to set up the DVD player if the cable TV didn't work. The tech was actually busy programing her dialysis and anyway the TV cable DID work. I even showed her her favorite channel was on.
She finally just interrupted the tech and told him to set up the DVD player because *her husband* wanted to watch a movie. I finally just sat down, told the tech I didn't want to watch a movie and put my head down for a while and stopped talking.
A few minutes later I pulled myself together enough to beg for help on Twitter. Michael stepped up to save my bacon.
