the Cadet Honor Code:
"A cadet will not lie, cheat, or steal, or tolerate those who do"
Three rules of Thumb:
1. Does this action attempt to decieve anyone or allow anyone to be decieved
2. Does this action gain or allow the gain of a privlage or advantage to which i or someone else would not otherwise be entitled
3. would be satisfied with the outcome if i were on the reciveing end of this action.
honor is a funny and complex thing. in my opinion, honor is a core value that measures the worth and value of a person. honor is tied to a man's integrity, and integrity is what makes a leader, and integrity is the ability to what is right legally and morally (text book army memorization)
in light or recent events, i've learned that many people lack honor. even people who were the most reverent in their respective religion lacked a conscience to uphold thier integrity. pressure from many outside forces and internal thought have pushed people to make unethical choice, and despite how strong many one may seem to the outside, frmo within, one may be distraught and tormented.
West Point has taught me that is take great strength in moral character to choose the harder right over the easier wrong. this is all so true. to choose what is morally right, even if it means destroying your own intrgity, is a choice that reaks havon on one's conscience. however, very seldom does anyone that has commited wrong throw thier integrity away for the morally right. that is why i believe a true test of character is when a person admits his/her wrong doing at the expense of integrity.
i can't hold a grudge againts people who admit thier wrongs and seek forgiveness. i can't hold a grudge against people who got away with thier wrong doings and pride themselves in it. no matter what, i can't hold anything against anyone because i'm am no different than the next dumbass. i am a soldier among other soldiers with many responsiblitiies to the country and other people around the world.
i can, however, punch a few in the face and attempt to steer those around in the right course,only from which i know little of.
the sad fact that i now little about these ambiguous concepts of honor and integrity shows that many people in the country lack those qualities. there are few good role models to live up to and model ourselves over. sadly, even Jesus Christ, the very son of God, the representative of moral order, has been manipulated in the media for the benefits of the media and politics.
