Amazing weekend of Music and Media

This was a weekend of great shows. First we saw Saul Williams at SOB in Greenwich Village or SoHo (I haven't lived here long enough to be that specific). The opening band was this crazy little 3 piece called Telepathe Really cool spacey, electronic, and melodic sound.

Their Myspace says they are from Brooklyn (like anyone whose cool in New York). Sorry the photos suck but the lighting in that place was nuts. I took a lot of video as well but not enough of it turned out to post here. The sound was super loud in there so most of it just blows out the mic on my camera.
Then it was Saul or Niggy Tardust. I mean there was definitely a stage character that he brought but it was quickly dropped in favor of rocking out. At one point he got on the floor to dance with us. I just remember turning around and he was right there in my face and we were both screaming the lyrics of the song into the microphone. It was really intense. I thought the crowd had a really good energy and while you got shoved around a bit it was all pretty well natured. Nicole thinks moshing is a practice that should have been banned 10 years ago. For me it depends on the show and this one didn't bother me in the least. Although towards the end of the encore I couldn't breath anymore.

Then on Thursday we went to see the Fiery Furnaces in East River Park FOR FREE. It was an awesome show right next to the river. You could see the Williamsburg bridge. The band sounded tighter than any other time I saw them. (you can judge for yourself) The sound was pretty good so I edited some of it together and stuck it up on youtube.

On Saturday we went out to see the Siren Festival on Coney Island. Free bands all day. Stephen Malkmus and Broken Social Scene headlined. They played at basically the same time so we went to see Stephen Malkmus. The crowd was intense and so was the heat. We got stuck by this really loud compressor for a good portion of the show. Some pussies couldn't take the heat so the left we eventually made it right up the stage for the encore. . . Eddy Money's Two Tickets to Paradise.

And then there is Sunday. The inevitable let-down. Not so bad really. I did laundry, went to the grocery store made dinner for the roommates, and Ryan and I made a video for his class tomorrow. He is presenting this to the other teachers in his program. The instructor told him to "be creative". I think any teacher that has ever told me that has immediately regretted it. You'll see. . .its silly.
