A pet? Well for one, it helps with lowering the intensity of the ticking sound and for another, some people are just lonely.

As for Abel naming his dog after you, I must admit that you and the puppy have a slight resembalance to each other. And I suppose Abel must have really missed you.

The ticking sound is distracting to humans?

Negative. It is impossible for us to resemble each other.

Mmhmm. Most people find it quite sets them off after a while. It's rather tragic, really.

Honestly? Yes. You both are very loyal and strong after all.

That does not explain why humans seek pets outside of the City.

Loyal and strong? Please explain.

Companionship, dear. People like feeling needed and animals help. Other people have animals as helpers for work or other things as well. I know several farmers that had dogs to guard their stock.

Loyal to those around you and your lady. Strong because you will fight to protect those under your charge.

A working animal is not a "pet." Pets are defined as being kept for companions.

Acknowledged. Humans feel that pets "need" them.

Father Nightroad's pet has not displayed those inclinations.

Mm~ no. Darling, pets can also work for a living.

Mmhmm.

Abel's dog is still young, dear.

Negative. An animal that serves a purpose other than companionship is not considered a pet.

Explain your use of "still young."

I suppose you aren't flexible, mm?

He still has a lot to learn.

Negative. I was built to be as flexible as humans.

What does Father Nightroad's pet have to learn?

suitcaseofnails June 26 2008, 02:41:29 UTC
Mm, no. I really don't think you are.

Why don't you ask Abel that?

I do not compute your meaning. In all cases, my physical capabilites are equal to or greater than a human's.

Acknowledged.

Mentally, dear.

Scanning alternate definition.

... Affirmative. I am not capable of mental flexibity outside of my programming.

So you cannot say that a working animal is also a pet because of this inflexibility.

gunhound June 26 2008, 03:38:32 UTC
Inflexibility is irrelevant in this case. The definition of a pet is not ambiguous.
