Sunday, we had a Mother's Day cookout at our house. My parents, nephew, brother, and sister-in-law came. Brother Mark provided all the food... hamburgers, barbecue chicken, and hot dogs plus a potato and a bean casserole. Kate provided the apple wood for the grill. I was very surprised that my dad came... he doesn't leave the house much anymore, but he did. I enjoyed the company, and I think everyone had a good time. I got to exchange hip replacement stories with Mom.
Yesterday, the physical therapist added 3 more exercises to my routine. They're all pretty simple... lifting my leg this way or that in motions that don't violate the The Rules of the Hip. None of them are particularly challenging or painful.
I have to say, the hip feels great. Really great. Continuing to use the walker correctly is very challenging because I just don't feel like I need it. It hurts a lot less to put weight on my leg now than it did before surgery. It hurts a lot less to stand up and move around. In general, it hurts a lot less. So, I feel less debilitated now than I did prior to surgery, and using the walker is a gigantic huge pain.
I'm only using pain meds at night, now, and I think I'll be able to switch to something less potent pretty soon.
