Yard pics and random bits

So, more pics from the yard yesterday, a chicken pic (Xena and Gabrielle demonstrating why we named them Xena and Gabrielle), and random pet photos.

One of our transplanted day lilies.

Our waterfall after a nice rain.

We did a hard pruning of the crepe myrtles lining our driveway this spring because we believed it had probably been several years since they had been pruned. They responded beautifully, and they look much healthier than they did last year.

One of many nectarines on our trees. We have peaches, apples, pears, plums, and nectarines.  We have to fight the squirrels for them, but they are yummy.

The rugosa rose I planted last fall is blooming!

When Shimmeringstar1 visited in April, we planted this little Japanese maple.  It is doing well, surrounded by cosmos and sunflowers.

The triangle bed by the driveway. The large pots have combinations of flowers and sweet potato vines. The small pots have petunias and one with stone crop. There are coreopsis planted in the bed itself, and an aster which isn't doing very well.

A happy dog enjoying the 4th of July with her moms.

One of the pots that Shimmeringstar1 planted for us... the pink flower is a pentas; I don't remember what the blue things are, but it's a beautiful combination.

Another pot courtesy of Shimmeringstar1. It's a dark sweet potato vine and... something whose name I can't remember...

(There is a lesson to be learned here, actually, in that if you come to spend the night with Kate and me, we'll put you to work in our yard. Deb had to plant; Andrea had to burn webworms. Somehow, Rhiannonredwulf escaped without leaving an imprint on our landscape. This must be remedied next time she comes...)

Xena and Gabrielle. Xena is an old, battle-scarred hen, armed with spurs that would do an alpha rooster proud. She knows how to use them, as well. She is very protective of her best friend, Gabrielle. Bizarrely, Gabrielle likes to crawl underneath Xena, which amuses her lesbian owners no end.

The difference between store-bought eggs (left) and fresh eggs from happy chickens (right).

Tasha likes to shred paper towels and toilet paper. This is why we have to hide such things from her. *sigh*
