So if the society views that one should save a child from a burning building it would mean that the overwhelming majority of the people making up the society believe that helping one that cannot help themself is the human thing to do. Even beyond that, if it is programed into us by society how was it programed into society before that? It had to begin somewhere.
The big question comes in when one honestly asks himself if he would run into a burning building to save a child and then more importantly asks himself why he would take the action he chose and if it is the action he would want to take in such a certain situation. Most people, when honest, find their answers quite puzzling because non of them add up correctly. Which is due to social conditioning that has sent our intrinsic value system haywire.
That is my take on it, but i read way to much eastern philosophy and carl jung though. heh
