I will never understand why some people use white type on a dark background. Literally makes the site unreadable for me and for quite a few other people I know.

I agree. I set the view to no style to read it in the browser.

I use the old-school Rainbow computer setting on gmail so I read in green type on black. Sometimes for the ARGE mails I have to highlight the page.

It's quite readable on Google Reader, though....

I've read that it's easier for vision-impaired people to read. It does seem like it creates a ghosting effect though.
