Ep 4 - the politics of it all

Oct 29, 2007 20:14

I just joined this comm after watching ep4 and mostly because I need people to share my OMFG moment with. . . spoiler heavy ramblings beneath the cut

Holy Crap did Celestial Being get played!

That was an amazing set up and they walked right into it.

The comments of the Princess Amidala flunky are what set me off, but let's look at what happened here:

Small relatively (I'm guessing) powerless country has growing independence movement.
Leader is facing upcoming election.
Leader declares independence; practically sticks up sign saying "Gundam Savoiurs wanted. Apply Within."
Celestial Being is faced with a quick decision - stick to their stated principles and trash a small country or trash both sides when stuff happens.
Union shows up, threatening war but DOING NOTHING VIOLENT - removing them as a threat based on CB's stated ideology
Gundam Meisters have to trash the violent party or lose credibility.
Leader takes minor losses and folds like Superman on laundry day.

Net results:

1. Leader now gets to ride both the anti-American sentiments (I stood up to em!) and humanitarian sentiments (I saved lives) into the reelection;
2. Anti-American/Union sentiments are also reduced because Union/America are now the good guys; they saved us from the brutal Gundam Meisters! (possibly the leader's true position, given how quickly he folded)
3. Union gets a secure flank near the orbital elevator;
4. A very clear message is sent; new independence movements get slapped down. End result? Securer borders for Union, AEU, HRL.

Who wins? Everyone but the grunts and Celestial Being.
