Didn't do much today. Stayed after for SWA: took our picture for the yearbook, and worked on stories for the morning announcements. I was supposed to go to the DMV today... which didn't happen. Next week I hope.
The death penalty. I want your opinion. Go.

If you want swift action on the death penalty move to china. Guilty *bang* over. As far as the United States and the swift action of the death penalty, there isn't one. You remember the TImothy McVaye execution? How long was it since he was convicted and sentanced that he was executed? It was quite a number of years.
As far as prison being comfortable, it's not exactly very comfortable. THey still have harsh punishments etc. A maximum security prison is no play house with barbed wire around it, and the people aren't exactly something you want to encounter. Doesn't it seem that life stuck in the same place is pretty terrible? YOu can't leave, you can't really ever see anyone ever again. You are stuck in prison, sleeping in a 5' by 7' room going to the bathroom infront of people, eating only whats provided. Granted they have some ways to cope, of course they would.
The prisonsers create their own seperate society. If we can't encorperate them back into real life, why not give them a world of their own. At least here all the rules make sense to them.
Anyway, my point is that America certainly doesn't deal with the death penalty quickly. There is the trial, multiple appeals, sentancing, waiting in line. And then when it's all said and done, what if he's innocent?

They let a man who killed 13 people out just to see the ashes of his dad. He killed 13 people, does he really deserve that special privaledge? He probably got it because of good behaviour. And if he continues on that trend imagine what other privaledges he will get.
-Also, in responce to the 'its not a deterrant'
If you know for a fact that you could kill eight people and have no further sentence then a life in a cell where all your meals are provided, you rarely work a difficult job, and if you're good you can end up with extra comforts you might be tempted to do it. If you knew you were gonna die clearly some people are gonna drop out of the running. Of course theres going to be the phsyco ones who'd go through it till the end. That doesn't mean we're not preventing crime with the death penalty.
