A Downy metaphor

Last night I cleaned out the laundry room cabinet, only to find a really old bottle of Downy that had decided to leak and deposit blue/green waxy stuff on the shelf. Took me a while to clean it as well as throw away all sorts of products I have never used. I felt really good afterward ( Read more... )

I agree, Meg! What a great analogy. Actually, for many of my family, the burden is often a physical one--junk. Guilt and obligation keep them hanging onto things that are not useful or pleasure-giving. In fact, I've often "taken" things just to free them from the burden and then disposed of it. Why do we cling to things that are not good to/for us?

Right Meg. I have a couple of those people. One of them gets upset if I DO NOT carry the burden with them. Empathy is good, but transferring the heaviness to oneself is not healthy long term. Surely the best thing is to lift up a prayer for that person when we're overwhelmed with their problems. Now...if I could only figure out how to do that.
