Unprofessional
****WARNING...STRONG LANGUAGE****
So, I went on to our HR website to check my benefits for the new job. I figure, since they didn't pay me until 6 days into the new month, I may as well just make sure that my benefits were ok. And of course they weren't. I had accrued sick leave, but not vacation leave. On the webpage it says, if you see any discrepancies, report it to your department.
I go into the office of the Money Chief. This is a very awful woman who has a reputation in our department for being surly at best, and impossible at worst. But her door was open, and it's her job to deal with problems like this. So politely explained the situation: "I looked on the benefits page, and I haven't accrued vacation leave for the month of July."
The woman said in a voice that could curdle milk, "You don't get vacation leave. You only get sick leave. You're an academic professional. You only get sick leave." The implied tone was, get the fuck out of my office, bitch.
I knew this was wrong. No one would take a full-time job that you don't earn vacation for. What insanity was that? She was just flat-out wrong. I said, "I don't?"
"NO YOU DON'T."
I said, "Oh." I didn't want to contradict her, because I didn't want this to get ugly.
"And," she said, "you haven't even worked here a month and you already want a vacation?" I wish you could have heard how scathing her voice was. "You don't get a vacation. That's final."
I said, "Could you check to be sure?"
She pushes around her papers and sighs audibly. Then she checks something on the computer. I just wait there stupidly, and fuming because of how shitty she was being, but I say nothing.
She says, "Uh, ok, you're supposed to get vacation but since they didn't process your papers till last week it's not in the computer."
No, I'm sorry I was a bitch to you. No, I'm sorry I told you wrong information. Nothing.
I hate that fucking bitch. I hate her. And I'll say something, and it's not P.C. but so what. She may be good with money and budgets and whatever she does. But she has no people skills--she is completely non-customer-service oriented--and when she doesn't do her job, or makes everyone else's job harder by her horrible attitude, she is not an effective worker. And the only reason no one has fired her sorry ass is because she is another race and the chair of the department is too lilly-livered to fire her because he's afraid of getting accused of being racist.
But her race has nothing to do with her job. She could be purple for all I care--as long as she does her job. The fact that she has a bad reputation, the fact that everyone walks on eggshells, the fact that today the vice-chair went into the bitch's office and prefaced whatever she said with, "Don't shoot the messenger..."... I mean, come on. Fire that useless, unprofessional bitch already. Hire someone else who actually wants to work and help people.
I walked out of her office so angry, that I could barely do my own job. I wanted to break things.
And the real shitty thing is, there's no one to complain to about her. Everyone knows she's a horrible, vicious, useless bitch. And everyone's afraid of her because no one wants to upset the apple cart and tell her off because she would be the first person to accuse someone of infringing on her civil rights.
I just fricken hate her.
And, I might mention that I need her to purchase a shredder and some pink paper for my job... but I'm so angry at her still, I'm afraid I might say something unprofessional to her... and I know she has the power to fuck up my records. So I'm just going to suffer without those things.
