Dinosaurs and humans had always coexisted. It didn’t pose any significant impediments to progress. They hovered over us vaguely as if life had always split into two planes that never touched. One day it changed when the dinosaurs decided to go extinct. They couldn’t find many ways to do it in this era of modern medicine. Finally they decided to simply discombobulate. They were so big that their body parts started falling from the sky. T-rex heads, tails, and giant paws protruded with claws like baby knives. And they started raining. Every piece was sliced cleanly and there was no blood; they thudded and smashed into our people and our monuments. Here is a tiny brontosaurus head wedged in a cathedral’s clock tower; there’s a sparkling foot. It soared through the universe. It knocked off a man’s toupee.
