a t-shirt and a high-five
Good time this weekend. Took Friday off and Went to Traverse City with Lisa. We spent the day at the outlet malls and downtown before heading to our show at jacob's well,which has some of the nicest people ever volunteering their time to keep a cool thing happening. the show was fun. kids weren't getting into it so I decided we'd pull the musical chairs card again. only bad thing is that one by one the kids who are up and playing the game and having fun are forced to sit down one by one leaving us where we started. there was a band from Grand Rapids playing tat was pretty cool. they were super nice guys. well, during there set one guy got up on stage and said "you suck" into the microphone. For as cool as Traverse City is, it's actually one of my favorite places to play(especially Jacob's Well), there seems to me more jerks than usuall. So after this happened I started to get into defensive mode thinking about all of the things that could happen during our set. I didn't want to have a bad attitude so I started thinking about a sermon I head at Mars Hill in Grand Rapids. I just kept thinking "Love Wins". Well, the guy who was being a jerk was one of the guys playing musical chairs and ended up being the last one standing. So since he was the winner we called him up on stage to give him a free t-shirt and exchange high-fives. It was cool to have him up on stage because I had a neat oppurtunity. I told him that before he would recieve his t-shirt he had to promise not to get on stage when bands play and tell them suck even if he didn't like them. he instantly sold out his friend saying that someone payed him 5 dollars to do it. I don't think that me forcing him to apologize is going to set him on the right path...I am sure there will be more hurtful hi-jinx for money but I think God gave me a chance to let him know that everyone didn't think him and his friends were cool. so the moral of the story is that sometimes when people piss you off you just got to give them a the free t-shirt and the high-five.
