do you remember the first time we saw each other?
the sponge painted walls, the smell of flour, dough, and sauce.
do you remember the first conversations we had?
"the enemies gate is always down!"
do you remember the first date we went on?
your timid question, those dollar burgers in that old restaurant.
do you remember the place i asked you to be mine?
the steam on the glass, the door floating on two tiny hinges.
do you remember the joy of our travel?
the east Texas trees, and the sunsets, listening to the hum of those four cylinders.
do you remember Dallas!?
the intrigue, the grassy knoll, the cold hotel.
do you remember those days while your dad was away?
the hide and seek in the dark house, like kids we played for hours.
do you remember the sweat?
when we would wash and wax our cars together, striping down to our underwear.
do you remember afterwords?
do you remember the fights?
the pointless arguments, the tears, the emotion.
i am so sorry. if there is one thing i could change, it is that.
i wish above all else that we could have worked. but you have moved on, and so have i.
but please please, don't forget, forget the great times we had,
the love that we both felt, above all else.
