It's been a while since my last post, but I'm back again!
Last Saturday I walked the "Kennedymars"! For those who do not know what this is, I'll explain briefly. You walk 50 miles (80 kms) on one day and you have to finish within 20 hours. You start at 05:00 in the morning. Now for a bit of histroy lesson. It all started in the 1960's when it was said that a human, or better "the average American" was no longer capable of walking 50 miles on one day. To show that this was not the case J.F. Kennedy walked 50 miles within 20 hours and showed that the human being (or I should say, the average American) was still in good shape. This idea crossed the ocean and the next few years saw the start of several "Kenndeymarches" in Europe, and a group of students in Sittard, my hometown, also got the idea to start this event. Now back to the present. Last Saturday was the 43rd edition of the "Kennedymars Sittard" and it was the second time I participated. Last year, my fist time, I finished within 15 hours, 19:50 to be precise. This year It was a bit harder, but I did it within 16 hours and finished at 20:45!! Ow yeah, this year the march had a total of 3300 participants, the largest number in the last ten years! I walked together with my mom, who walked for the 22nd time by the way, isn't that an achievement!!
