RENT ~*~ 1996 - 2006 ~*~

And let us hope for 10 more!

As many of you may know, today is the RENT 10th Anniversary Benefit Concert. The original cast, including the ensemble (as far as I know), are going to sing through the show at the Nederlander, the proceeds from the $1000 tickets going to charity. It's a wonderful cause, although it is upsetting that the tickets are too expensive for the average theatre-goer.

Of course, that's where the lottery comes in. Seeing the pictures of the hundreds, possibly a thousand people lining up to try and get tickets to this milestone event is breathtaking to say the least. While I'm sad that I'm not able to attend the concert, I'm not bitter at all; I'm listening to the OBCR as I type this, smiling as the voices of Jesse and Wilson fill my ears. "Oh, lover, I'll cover you."

I'm sure that a bootleg of the concert is going to show up on YouTube or some other site. I'll be tempted to watch it, and I probably will, along with thousands of other fans, but our reasons are valid. We are RENTheads. We love the show, the movie, the music, the story, the actors, the musicians...in short, we love RENT. It's more than just a show. It has truly changed my outlook on many things, and I'm sure it has done the same for many other fans.

"No room at the Holiday Inn - oh no! And it's beginning to snow!"

"Christmas Bells" just came on iTunes. This is probably my favorite song from the entire show. It's the ultimate ensemble song, if you ask me. Yes, I like it better than "Seasons of Love," "Rent," and "La Vie Boheme" put together. "Christmas Bells" is the epitome of what an ensemble is all about; RENT is truly an ensemble show, as no one character is the main star. Everyone gets to shine, whether it's the soloist in "Seasons of Love," The Man, or the girl with the fuzzy pink bra in "La Vie Boheme." That's another thing that I love about this show.

I should probably stop rambling now, so I'm going to close by wishing everyone who is attending the concert to have a wonderful experience. Thank you, Adam, Anthony, Daphne, Wilson, Jesse, Idina, Fredi, Taye, and the incredible ensemble. Thank you, musicians and various stage crew. And most importantly - thank you, Jonathan Larson. You have truly made a difference my life. Thank you.
