So Angell-Studio released a Baron Samedi doll a while back. Their promo image was a photoshopped version of the head with a skull superimposed, but the doll itself looked like a basic pretty-boy type in a fancy suit. Nothing Samedi about it and nothing particularly zombie-ish, either.
Then they released a version with the skull head.
So close.
I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad that they made it kind of wonky. The promo image depicted skull without a lower jaw and that's how they sculpted it. The maxillary teeth end where the chin should be. Whiiiich makes it look pretty weird.
I love the top portion of the sculpt and I really do love the detail around the teeth. If only they had sculpted in proper mandibles, with the necessary adjustment to the upper proportions, I would have been in love.
Granted, I can't afford him, so it's probably a good thing. Still, he is so close to being crazy-awesome.
It looks like he's limited to 30 instead of being limited by time and there doesn't seem to be a lot of fervor over his release, at least not on DoA. So...if he sticks around for a few months, there's always a chance I'll cave, but I think the long face and lack of mandibles is going to be too much for me.
He still looks really cool from the right angles, though.
