Dear goodness.

Well, here I am after a month as a college student. It's crazy. I could go into detail for hours about everything that's gone on, but I need to sleep. And I think the girls from my floor that I'm sitting with right now may want to go swimming later on...we're in San Diego at one girl's gigantic house right now.
So here's the basic breakdown: My school/classes are amazing, my roommate is awesome, and God didn't waste any time in teaching me things. About two weeks ago, my new Macbook had an unfortunate run-in with a glass of water...and as of now is basically dead. I'm going to have a chance to bring it in to a "Mac Genius" next Wednesday, but pray that my particular problem is covered under the warranty! I don't have the money to buy a new computer and stay at a Christian college.
Anyways, as soon as I realized that my beautiful computer wasn't responding, I started praying: something I hadn't been doing a whole lot of since i got to school. I prayed something along the lines of "Sorry for the lack of communication lately...can I have my idol back?" No sale. So in the last two weeks, it's been a lot easier to get around to devotions...go figure. I thought this would be a lesson I'd have learned by now--without such drastic measures--but I guess I'm still growing up.
I'm SO thankful for the friends I have--honors kids and otherwise. I really feel like I've known half of them all my life...and considering that I've had to write papers and edit photo projects on their computers, I can vouch for their generosity and patience already. Not to mention that they share lots of great food. =D
Speaking of food, I ended up getting a job at the cafe, since there weren't many other options. Minimum wage in CA is $7.50, fortunately. Given the price of groceries, I can understand the need for it, though. Prior to this, I'd been earning $11 an hour at two different office jobs...so life as a cafeteria lady has been a definite adjustment. I'm starting to like the job more and more though: I've become a big fan of pizza dough parties and "musical food stations." I'm also getting to know my coworkers (throwing rags and cracking jokes while serving, anyone?) and learning Spanish from the cooks. Me gusta mucho.
Classes are great, and I'm enjoying all of our Visual Aesthetics projects and studies of lighting and color.
I'm sleeping enough--for the most part--and my honors classes are really interesting. I have an awesome discussion group, and I can't imagine how close we'll all be when we graduate. Yes, there are cute boys here...but I only observe drama, I don't create it. ;-)
I'll update weekly from now on...promise. Please pray that I work hard, balance my schedule, and get a working computer. Miss you all, and I'd love to get updates on life outside of the Biola bubble. Hugs from L.A.
