Oh, and...what saddens me the most is that the federal government has turned a blind eye to the various states' endeavors to allow their residents to actually VOTE ON HUMAN RIGHTS. These rights should be inherently laid down in our Constitution, and they shouldn't be up for a public vote. Because what happens when you let Democracy run its course? The majority rules, and the majority of people are inevitably those who are privileged, whilst the marginalized minorities are left unfairly represented.

If it weren't a religious issue, it would have been passed on a federal level by now, like all that happened after Brown vs. BOE.

That's the thing. Does the separation of church and state somehow overlook the fact that members of the government still make legal decisions based on religious values?
