We had a good weekend. Friday night we went to the Korean place I'd been craving for awhile, and had Korean-style kimchi pancakes (I forget what they're called, and I probably knew them by the Japanese name anyway) and spicy chicken and mushrooms grilled at the table, along with all of those little dishes of pickles, rice porridge, etc. that they bring to the table. Afterwards we had ice cream, then went home and chilled for the rest of the evening.

Saturday I had a Japanese lesson in the morning that went quite well, then we ran some errands and made it to the park by about 4. We wandered around and did some hiking for about an hour and a half. It was pretty busy there, but not enough to be unpleasant. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, so I guess everyone felt compelled to get out and enjoy it. Next time we want to try to go for a whole morning, and try one of the shorter loop trails. After the park, we headed home to make dinner (Justin grilled some tuna with tasty wasabi sauce, and I made a box of Thai coconut ginger rice and added peanuts, green onions, green beans, and peanuts... yum). Then we headed into the city around 8 for an Artie Lang (of Howard Stern fame) show. It had been a few hours since we'd eaten by the time we got in, and since the show didn't start til 11:45, we stopped at a Thai restaurant and had a snack (mee krob - those crunchy sticky spicy sweet little rice noodles with raw bean sprouts - and spicy papaya salad). The show was a benefit for a woman who has cancer, three kids, and three jobs, which was a worthy cause for sure. But I really, truly hated Lang for the most part. Two other comedians went on before him for about ten minutes each, and I thought they were so much funnier than him. He was just competely not my kind of comedy for about a billion different reasons. I was so put off by the show that I was pretty bitchy during the ride home (not helped by it taking us like an hour to get on the fucking Lincoln Tunnel), but chilled out by the time we got back.

Yesterday we were supposed to go to the gym in the morning, but both of us were pretty sore from hiking and walking around the city, so we didn't. We headed up to Target to get a couple of things, and since we were driving through Jewtown (a.k.a. Monsey/Spring Valley) on a Sunday for once and things were actually open, we stopped at Kosher Castle for a snack. This place, run by hasidic Jews, is located in a building that looks like it used to be a McDonalds or something. Their menu includes deli sandwiches, fried chicken, knishes, and a wide variety of Chinese food. Kind of bizarre, but not completely when you consider the tastes of Jewish people in general. We each got a knish (kasha for me, potato for Justin) and split some Israeli salad (chopped green and red peppers, cucumbers, etc.), and it was a really tasty snack. I even bought a few more knishes to bring home to my parents and brother since they were so good. Later, we had dinner with my family at Veggie Heaven, then headed home for Star Trek and Sim City, which both of us are currently addicted to apparently.

I'm getting really excited for the Star Trek movie. Can't wait to see it in Imax.
