"Keep fighting for freedom and justice...but don't forget to have fun doin' it. Let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cat, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce. And when you get through kickin' ass and celebratin' the sheer joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was."
-Molly Ivins
Rest in peace, Molly. There's not a single person out there who couldn't learn from you about fighting the good fight and how to treat your fellow human being.
If you need to know why it's important to fight George Bush and everything he stands for, Molly Ivins was the best example of how to articulate it. She went to school and university with Georgie-boy. She knows he and his cronies for the cowards that they are, little boys who talk tough now and are acting out their fantasies because they were cowards back during Vietnam. She was there to watch them laugh about getting out of it. She could tell you all exactly why they should never be in charge and how your personal bank account issues could never justify voting for them.
Molly's death is a great loss to people who enjoy their freedoms and personal expression. Chances are you won't feel her loss, but that doesn't mean her ideals won't continue to touch you and fight for you.
