this entry is pretty pointless, but I need to ramble about Shackleton

wow, sir ernest shackleton looks so different when he has a beard to when he's clean-shaven. of course, he also tends to grow the beard primarily when he's on an antarctic expedition and that'll age the skin a bit. It's not that he's really old in the beard pics, though; he didn't live to a super old age or anything.

If you hadn't already said that Shackleton was your second favorite I would be side-eying you about the Scott mention. XD Not that he isn't a legend but Shackleton is so clearly cooler!

Actually Scott's been on my brain since I went to the exhibit about him and Amundsen at the Natural History Museum - so heartbreaking. I knew what happened so I skipped or skimmed a lot of the later stuff but I still was almost in tears!!

Anyway, Shackleton is my favorite historical figure!!! So I'm going to have to ask what's so great about Magellan! XD

also, a long time ago I think we were talking about the popularity of Iker/Cesc as a pairing and how it doesn't make sense compared to Iker/Becks? I keep coming across it and I think one of the things that bothers me is that Cesc is always written as so, like. . . infantile, I guess? It seems that a lot of the people writing that maybe know him from the national team, where he's one of the youngest, better than from Arsenal. Not that he's so mature but he holds a leadership role and stuff.

So I've found a few Iker/Cesc fics that I really like but the vast majority of them - or any fic involving Cesc - don't really work for me. And I'm not even a big fan so I don't know why I feel so strongly about this, and usually I don't get too worked up about characterization, but something about the way people write Cesc seems to really not ring true for me.

(Oh also, when they're NT and Madrid fans and write the fic as if Cesc spent all his time just hanging out with all the hottest members of Real Madrid - whether he would know them from the national team or not - and totally ignoring anyone from Barca. Look, I'm not a Barca fan, but. . .)

Shackleton is really cool, ngl. I like him more than Scott. With Magellan, I saw a really cool movie when I was younger about the last leg of his exploration and just fell in love with the movie version of him. I guess I like douchebag leaders who don't listen to anyone else. *shrug*.

OMG THIS. I've always hated how Cesc was written. I mean, I can understand why they would write him like that since he is one of the youngest. But, come on, the guy is 23 years old and it always bothered me. Especially when he's portrayed to be emotionally weak as well. It's weird.

And, I agree that it's weird that they would ignore his Barca ties. I mean, the guy is Barca through and through even if I don't support the team, I can acknowledge that.
