For those of you who are curious regarding Odd Jobs Division, the Disgaea-like Strategy RPG that I'm working on, I have written the following. An overview of the setting, story, and characters. Do enjoy.
World
In the Ethereal Realm, there are two kingdoms, known as Valhalla, the Angel Kingdom, and Niflheim, the Demon Kingdom. The two are separated by a rift known as the Corynthian’s Chasm, bridged by the Crimson Span which connects the two sides of Border Town. Though it exists on both sides, neither kingdom lays claim to Border Town.
Angels and Demons, while not openly hostile with one another, still have a lasting distrust between them. The kingdoms have not been at war for some time, but nor are they peaceful. A faint enmity exists between the two, but it has declined in strength over the past few centuries.
This recent decline of hostilities has resulted in an ever-increasing number of Halflings. Halflings are people with a Demon parent and an Angel parent, their outward appearance leaning more toward the race their mother happened to be of. A Halfling can be distinguished by a dark blue patch covering their face around the eyes and forehead, much like a raccoon mask.
Heimdall
Heimdall Courier Company and Hermes Delivery Service have long been rivals in the Ethereal Realm, Heimdall belonging to Niflheim and Hermes to Valhalla, but both making deliveries in the others’ territory.
Many years ago, Heimdall Co was approached about problems that weren’t deliveries. At first, the requests were regarding thieveries by bandits in the woods, and since it did pertain to their services, they were sent out to get rid of the thieves and solve the issue of robberies on the road. But from that point on, the company had made a name for itself as a problem-solving service, and it was a reputation that they could not rid themselves of.
Thus, they created the Odd Jobs Division, a section of the company specifically for the handling of non-delivery requests. The OJD handles anything from regular deliveries to police work to exorcisms.
Hermes has very recently created their own Odd Jobs Division to compete with Heimdall, but theirs doesn’t have the reputation that Heimdall’s does.
Story
King Valkyr and Queen Radiata recently agreed to have their children wed, so that a lasting peace could be created between the two kingdoms. But, within a month of the established wedding, the Princess of Valhalla, Parthena, was kidnapped and cannot be found. Queen Radiata sent out her best knights on the task, as did King Valkyr, but neither could find any sign of the princess. As a last resort, the king hired Heimdall’s Odd Jobs Division for the task, hoping they could succeed where his knights had failed. Queen Radiata followed suit and hired the OJD of Hermes, hoping that between the two teams, one would succeed.
Characters
Duncan Heimdall
The team leader of the two-man Odd Jobs Division. He is a Demon Halfling who weilds the sword of Heimdall, the warrior said to have founded the company. However, he is of no relation to the founder, despite his name. A chipper and optimistic young man who carries out his job with a ruthless efficiency, completing the mission at any cost.
Kanna Morphae
Duncan’s partner. A dark girl with a morbid sense of humour and an optimistic sort of pessimism. Like Duncan, she is dedicated to her job, but is willing to make more sacrifices than he is for the sake of the mission.
Artemis
Also known as Prince Valkyr, he is the son of King Valkyr and Prince of Niflheim. When his betrothed abducted, he set off on his own to find her, knowing his father’s knights would not be able to complete the task. He joins Duncan and Kanna under the banner of a common goal.
Snake
An enigmatic Angel who joins the party for reasons of her own. She is an intelligent, quick-thinking individual with a sharp wit. Not wanting her kingdom’s princess harmed, she joins Duncan to find her.
Ymaciel
A Demonslayer also known as the Radiant Wolf. He is a human, banished to the Ethereal Realm by a witch’s curse. Defeated by Artemis in battle, he is slave to an age-old contract of the Demon nobility and must serve him until the day he is released from service or Artemis’s death.
Parthena
Also known as Princess Radiata, the daughter of Queen Radiata and Princess of Valhalla. A very kind and generous person. She is shy, modest, and very ladylike. She is very apprehensive about her upcoming wedding to Artemis.
Gino Christine
The supervisor of the HQ section of Heimdall Courier Co. Though a formidable fighter and delivery boy, he no longer does the hard work, and sits behind his desk doing the paperwork part of Heimdall Co. He carries himself with a Mafioso attitude, and detests being called by his last name.
Josh Jovata
Gunslinging Team leader of the Hermes OJD. Cocky and arrogant, and very fond of his rivalry with Duncan. He has no dislike for Demons, just Heimdall workers, and will defend Halflings vehemently, even his rival, Duncan.
Miles Miliata
Josh’s partner in the Hermes OJD. An Angel Halfling with a strange laugh and a morbid humour similar to Kanna’s. Very mysterious and vaguely creepy, but he completes missions with a ruthless efficiency to rival Duncan’s. Has a crush on Kanna.
King Valkyr
The King of Niflheim. He is ancient, and follows the old ways. He is a just and fair king, and beloved by his people. He is waiting for Artemis to kill him and claim his rightful place on the throne, just as it has always been.
Apolla
Princess Apolla Marsierre Arieselle Valkyr. Artemis’s little sister. Her mother died when she was young, so she was raised by her father and has a very close bond to him. She hero worships her older brother as long as he isn’t around and fights with him endlessly when he is. Despite their seemingly hostile relationship, they are very close to one another.
Queen Radiata (incomplete profile)
Enmity
A mysterious figure said to be behind the kidnapping of Princess Parthena. Nothing is known of it aside from its name.
