Patches. =(

Goodbye Patches. :(

On friday night,, Patches was put to sleep. He was five years (possibly more) years old, and the best guinea pig in the world. He was cheerful, friendly and very socialable with other pigs. There wasn;t a pig in the world that didn't like him (apart from Humbug, but Humbug is always jealous of other boy pigs in case they pinch his wimmin-folk.)

At the start of Sepetember he underwent some rather extensive dental surgery. and hasn't been quite right since. While in teadragon 's care, he developed an abcess in his throat, probably as a secondary infection to the surgery. It burst. The only way to have helped him would've been extensive surgery, and long arduous aftercare which probably would've been too much for him anyway. So while in Beijing, I made the decision to send him to the eternal sleep. Emma was kind enough to be there with him for him, and even took Patches new best friend, her boy Koda, to the vets to keep him company.

Mum collected him on saturday, and we'll be burying him when I get back.

I'm not religous,(in any shape or form) but I like to think that I might be wrong, and that Patches is now away somewhere, with his old pal Jet, Smudge, and the various babies I've buried over these last few years munching away on endless fields of greenery.

What I do know is that there are a lot of young, handsome boy pigs living with their new owners, who are a more confident than they might otherwise have been around humans. Patches took floor time with these babies and fathered them for a little bit. Teaching them greens were tasty and I wasn't a scary monster.

There's Ink, Buster, Mike, Dave, Jupiter, Pluto, Mars, and about 15 more whose names I can't remember because I don;'t have their adoption forms here. Not to mention Trouble and tribble who patches briefly looked after during their first few floor times, until Trouble got too big for his boots and decided to dominate my old man.

I want to thank Emma for her wonderful care for Patches in his last couple of weeks, and at his end. I love how he won her heart, and the hearts of her boys. I love how she took oodles of pictures and that I'll get to see them, and I love how she treated him as one of her own. It makes it a little easier loosing him, knowing that he was in the best care.

I'm going to miss you Patches, we all are.

guinea pigs, patches
