Second Song ♫ Video

Mar 28, 2010 14:07

[ The video feed shifts on, and here's Klavier. He seems to be thinking of some sort of song in his head, because it seems like he's also looking for the best way to phrase what he wants to say. ] I've been to a lot of out of the way places to study foreign legal systems; tiny countries. Perhaps no larger than where we are now, even... and yet they ( Read more... )

[Hey Klavier, remember Cheria? She's one of the people who just listened to your entry and responds with a curt nod.]

I agree. So far, we haven't had much trouble, but if kind people can be drawn here, the unkind might appear as well. Now that we're here, we should do whatever we can to keep this place safe. Until we find a way out, Vatheon is our home.

I'm not a knight or anything of the sort, but if you ever have need of healing magic, please feel free to ask me.

[ Well! That earns you a smile. ]

That's exactly my point. Though speaking with one of the residents here, she seemed far too positive, but I'm a realist.

[ He chuckles absently. Magic? He doesn't really believe it, but he won't correct her. ] I'm not a knight, either--nor am I a judge. It's my job to make sure threats to society are locked up tight; that's what being a prosecutor means to me, aside from revealing the truth.

[That's alright. One day, he may see the magic with his own eyes and then he'll have to believe it.] That's a very admirable goal. Is there a dungeon to hold those threats, though? I have yet to encounter one here in the city.

Iron bars may hold my soul, but not our love...

[ Why yes, those are lyrics he's singing. ] Ah, the Jailhouse Blues. We'd hardly have the Blues to sing if we lack a jail to compose the music in! How right you are.

[She can't help but think he has a lovely singing voice. But that's really not the relevant topic here.]

Perhaps if we find some construction workers, a jail could be built. The locals are very helpful, so they may be willing to pitch in.

What a smart idea, my little Flower.

[ You have been officially nicknamed. Learn to love it. It was going to happen eventually one way or another. ]

I'm sure they'd be quite agreeable. They want us here for whatever reason, so making us happy is paramount, is it not? I think they can spare a building. It's my hope we don't have to use it; perhaps caution will be a deterrent unto itself.

[The best thing about that nickname is that Cheria actually likes flowers. She smiles faintly.]

I wonder who we'd have to approach about such a matter. Perhaps the High Priestess herself? She seemed the most talkative of the locals.

That's what I was thinking. It seems the Church has the most influence here, so that's likeliest the best way to go about it.

[ To be honest, it's because your hair is pink. It reminds him of, well, a flower. ]

She's probably a busy woman, but it can't be that difficult to get an audience.

I should hope not. If they care so much for keeping us satisfied, allowing us to speak with their High Priestess shouldn't be that much trouble for them. We simply need to explain the situation and provide a few good arguments on why the jail should be built.

And argument happens to be my profession, how lucky for us. [ Ohoho. You get a wink. ]

I have it in good faith that I'm not the only prosecutor here who's going to agree something needs to be done; Fräulein Von Karma will likely agree, no matter what she thinks of me.

[ Or if she tries to whip him. Which she probably will. ... And always does. ] I haven't spoken to her brother, but I'm sure Herr Frills will, as well. I just need to FIND him. I think if a group of responsible, level-minded adults approached this Priestess, she would take the matter as seriously as I'd like her to.

["Fräulein Von Karma"? "Herr Frills"? Well, if these people agree on the matter, it's all good.] Of course. If you'd like any more assistance, I could join you on your audience as well. I don't know much about being a... Prosecutor, but I would like to see this matter dealt with. I'm sure that the more people ask the High Priestess about this, the greater our chances of success will be.

[ Klavier would specify, but he's so used to referring to people in this way he doesn't honestly consider the fact others may or may not have NO IDEA what he's talking about. ]

Oh, don't worry about it. You don't have to be in law; it's just a very well-respected career to have... well, where I'm from, at any rate.

[ There's a pause. ... Perhaps he should elaborate, so she understands. ]... Whether you defend the innocent or place charges on the guilty, one must be logical and have a clear mind to be an attorney. Which is what I do. The technical title would be a "prosecuting attorney," but that's a mouthful, so usually we're just referred to as prosecutors.

One's mind must also be sharp if they want to not just play a guessing game, when it comes to law. After all, it isn't very often people manage to get through schooling by being illogical and rash, ja? In my profession, we don't assume things without evidence to back our claims up; that's why I wanted to find Herr Fr--er, Edgeworth and his sister, Franziska von Karma.

[ ... He just laughs, and plays a bit with his bangs. ] Ahaha, I guess that's a lot to take in, I apologize. ... At any rate, it would be my pleasure to have someone so kind come with me. After all, your heart is in the right place; that's what counts: sincerity.

Ah! I see! [Now she's finally starting to understand what a Prosecutor is. It's not so much catching the guilty, as proving that they are guilty. Strange that they'd need different people for that. It's usually somewhat decided on the spot where she's from.]

Thank you, sir Klavier. Please let me know when you intend to depart for the Church and who will be joining us when the time comes. I'll make sure to be prepared.

Welcome to the world of sight, in that case, Flower. The courtroom is the fruit of humanity's trial and error; a labor of love so that the innocent have a chance to be proven as such and live normal lives.

[ He chuckles, completely light-hearted despite the seriousness of what he wants to do. ] ... And please, stop with the 'sir' thing. Mein Gott, is it making me feel old! Goodness forbid, I can't stand being so formal out of court.

Ah... My apologies, Klavier. I'll try to be more informal from now on.

[Which is tough, because she tends to lapse back into formal speech unless she knows a person very well.]
