so coachella eh? FANTASTIC!!! seriously. and here is a short picture highlight of a few of the bands I saw.
we'll start with day one and go in chronological order...
DAY ONE
day one was getting used to the festival itself. saw a lot of bands and a lot of different things. I was was definitely dead tired after a wopping 4 hours of sleep.
Imogen Heap (who by the way, is playing right now at the marquee in Tempe but I had a dumb Jazz combo concert. oh well)
Sigur Ros (my personal favorite. they blew my expectations of them out of the water. AMAZING)
Depeche Mode (who were almost equally as amazing as Sigur Ros but not quite.)
Another Depeche Mode
DAY TWO
day two was about checking out the bands and trying to sneak back stage and also getting good shots of the artists off stage.
Imogen Heap (here, she's walking around. believe it or not, I saw her like 6 more times that day including standing in the crowd waiting for tool. I looked to my left and her and her boyfriend/husband/lover/whater he is were standing right by me and watched the whole show from right there. pretty sweet.
Matisyahu (didn't get any live pics because I was too relaxd and into the music. AMAZING live though.)
Bloc Party (amazing live and really good music. check them out if you haven't.)
Mogwai (alright, here's the story. so I did it. I snuck backstage and walked around the whole venue over to where Madonna was supposed to be getting onstage soon. I wanted to get a good shot before her onstage apperance. I got over there and the people who had the right wrist bands were getting kicked out and so I got outta there before I was caught. so I walked back over to behind the outdoor theatre where Mogwai was supposed to me getting on. behind the stage, there is a fence that's like a 3 foot tall picket fence and the guards are somewhat sparce so I sat in a perfect spot where the guards onstage wouldn't see me and waited for the ones that could see me turned a blind eye. my chance came and I hopped the fence and was golden. walked straight over to the back of the stage and stood there with my camera and pulled out my schedule to see how much longer it would be. one of the tech guys got to talking with me and was really cool. so I'm still waiting for Mogwai, who's setting up right next to me behind the stage. and then this girl comes up to me and says "can I stand with you?" I said yeah and she stands and says "I just hopped tthe fence" and I tell her that I did too, and at that moment, I look on stage and the guard guys are talking and pointing our way. so he starts coming to us and she just starts talking to me like we know eachother. and the guy points to the exit and I just stand there because I figure he'll let me go. guilt by association. I got in a short argument saying I had gotten in the proper way and showed him my wrist band (which is the same color as the main stage wrist band, just not the same material) and he says, "that's VIP not Backstage. now I can kick you out of the whole show or you can go now." so I went. walked all the way around and watched Mogwai. good show. left early to go check out Coheed though.)
Coheed and Cambria (this is as good as it got picture wise. too far away, and everyone was moving too much.)
I got a picture of Tool but it didn't come out so well. they weren't a good live show anyway. musically good, but not fun to watch at all.
if you want to see any more pictures of the above bands, ask and I'll try get more up or tell you I can't. I have plenty of Depeche Mode and Sigur Ros.
and to answer your question Jake, Coachella was BEYOND AMAZING!!
