Hey, may I chime in? I feel like blah, and really lonely and love-less, so I need this:
What I'm grateful for (it's hard to narrow it down to five):
1. Modern medicine, so an operation that meant a week in the hospital for me at age 7 is whittled down to a few hours for Holls and
martina_d 's Miss Priss. In fact, after learning how many children died from illness and how many women died after childbirth (including my great-grandmother) in Civil War times, I'm darn grateful for healthy children and safer childbirth.
2. My pretty apartment, which I have to admit is getting closer and closer to my vision of a homespace. That includes the view from my porch of the woods, not a parking lot.
3. A nutritious dinner of beef and broccoli, and my skim milk smoothie. Millions aren't so lucky tonight.
4. The chance to better myself at school and in my career. In many countries, there is no such thing as "bettering yourself", and especially for women.
5. That loneliness doesn't last forever; that life will look up again, and in fact one blessing is not having to share my vacation with anyone else ;)). But love would be nice...
