Hi!

I had a dull Xmas and did little except eating, sleeping and watching TV...

Since then I've been on the French Exchange and stayed with Cecile Chatelet who's really adorable although I think she probably found me rather obsessive... :( Her family were really friendly and her sister is also a tennis fan/player. Her parents were very welcoming and sweet. I also got to know some of the Brits on the trip better and made the important discovery that Bacardi Breezers do not exist in France. When I requested one at a miniscule bar (with a karaoke - one woman with a bad voice decided to sing there for at least 2 hours) I was given about 2 and a half inches of pure rum and lemon juice!! Malibu with lemonade is a safe bet :)

Apart from drinking (evidently) I went to St Etienne, quite an industrial town with a successful football team, in the heart of French chavland (they wear their trousers tucked in their socks and shout "Cassé!"), where we shopped on the 1st day. I was pretty zombielike but it was ok. On Thu I saw her modern-jazz dance class which was beautiful - really impressive. On Saturday I went to Lyon which was very pretty with 18th C buildings with balconies and I visited the museum of fine arts...

Feurs in France is a standard rural small town but it's much more pleasant than Potters Bar because of the gorgeous landscape surrounding it...hills in the distance and around Lyon, the French alps rise... However the most charming thing about France has to be their rustic shutters...... :)

Love,
