I haven't wrote a letter into the editor to bitch about things in a long time. But this food labeling issue continues to piss me off. Funny that it hardly made a blip in the news.
LETTER:
I'm very disappointed that the House of Commons has failed to pass the food labeling Bill C-283.
With new chemicals entering our food supply on a daily basis, coupled with obesity rates at an all time high, there has never been a more appropriate time to force food vendors to come clean on what they are actually selling us.
More than once, there have been suggestions by politicians that perhaps a "fat" tax was in order, as a deterrent for those who eat unhealthy foods. Perhaps instead of putting the cart before the horse, we can start by first making it easier for people to make informed decisions about what they are actually putting into their bodies.
And when considering the opposition to the bill by the restaurant industry and other food corporations, we can be sure of one thing: They are definitely hiding something from us.
Sincerely,
Gueny
smallOn another note, using the industries logic, I know that bag of cheesies I just ate were completely nutritious. After all, if there was anything I should know, then there would have been a food label on the bag, due to the inherent honesty of the food industry.
