Screen captures for scene one of KNOCKAROUND GUYS (some quotes and my own opinions included).
(This exact place is in one of my video games.)
"Nervous there, kid?"
(Matty looks at Teddy's man, then looks at Teddy, as if he's basing what he wants to say (or not say) off Teddy's reaction.)
(Teddy looks at Matty through the mirror.) (Interesting information: at the end of the movie, Matty realizes that Teddy set this whole thing up, this scene, to 'break' Matty. Poor kid.)
Teddy: (referring to man tied to chair) That is the mother fucker who is responsible for your pop being sent away.
(They go through a restaurant, go down into a basement.)
Bobby (guy tied to chair): Teddy, you know... you GOT to KNOW...
Matty: Guys... this is Bobby Boulevard...!
Bobby: Hey, Matty... How you doin', kiddo?
(Teddy cuts Bobby's tongue off because he keeps reminding Matty of the good times they had.)
Teddy: Just give the trigger a gentle squeeze...
Matty can't kill him.
Matty: I'm sorry, uncle Teddy...
(I think this kid looks most like the grown-up version of Matty, here.) (He seems ashamed.)
Matty: What are you gonna do to him?
(Teddy says they'll beat him up a bit, and he tells Matty to make a phone call. Matty doesn't call anyone, just leans against the phone.)
(He hears gun shots.)
(Matty has a sad life. His mother died (I know this because Teddy says 'not because your mother WAS my sister...' and also, Benny wouldn't have had Teddy watch Matty if his wife were alive), he was supposed to go hunting with his dad the morning the house was raided and Benny was taken to jail. Teddy took care of him and traumatized him, which Matty later found out was done on purpose. Teddy tried to kill him. Teddy had his men kill Matty's two friends, Marbles and Scarpa. And in the end, Matty realizes all this happened because he was trying to be what his father wanted him to be; mobster material. He tells his pop he's out, then he gives up his Cadillac and drives away with Taylor in Taylor's van. Taylor is the only positive thing in his life. He cares about Matty, so much that he was willing to risk his life to save him (Taylor jumps in front of Teddy's bullets to push Matty out of the way so he's not shot).
