This is so good, I just had to share. I have been active in the Gardening community lately, (as well as Quilting), and it's quite a lively community, at that. Anywho, I recently posted about some of the veggies and herbs, recently purchased at the local nursery during their end of the season sales. As a result of this sale, I now have peppers, tomatoes, and eggplant growing in my container garden. I mentioned that I got a Patchouli plant for my friend, Marianne, who was so kind as to take me to the nursery. She loves Patchouli. Me, I think it smells like bread mold, but whatever. I love the lemon scented herbs I grow each summer. So refreshing, doncha know.
WELLLL, One of the community members responded that they were unable to locate Patchouli at their garden cente rthis year, however, a few days later, they reported that they were able to find a Lemon Eucalyptus plant, one that I have been unable to find locally this season, and one of the most aromatic of the lemon scented plants. Just yummy!
SOOOO, we agreed to do an even swap. Yesterday, I got the Patchouli, and this morning, right after drinking my 4 cups of water*, and before eating my breakfast, I packaged the plant to send off in the mail today.
Now, because I live on a very busy main road, with tons of tractor/trailer traffic, and because my knees are so bad that if I fell while crossing the road to get the mail I'd quite likely get smushed in the road, the post office mailman delivers to my front door where I set up a mailbox on my porch. Nice, right?
But that's not all. Steve, my mailman, accommodates me by picking up my packages to be sent at my front door, slapping on the postage when he gets back to the P.O. after his route, and collecting the money from me on the following day.
So, this morning, I put the packaged Patchouli outside for pick up, along with a check made out in the amount I guesstimated the postage would amount to, based upon past experience.
Tonight, just before closing, Brenda, one of the mail clerks at the P.O., called to tell me the check was under the amount of the shipping cost. The upshot is that she shipped it Priority, and I'll leave the additional amount for the postage in an envelope for Steve to collect tomorrow.
Now, isn't that just lovely? Admit it. You probably can't get that kind of personal service where you live, can you?
So, the little Patchouli is safely on its way to Texas, and my Lemon Eucalyptus is winging its way east, as we talk! Cool, eh?
* Yes, I am still doing the Japanese Water Torture, uh, I mean Water Cure, but running to the bathroom less often.
Oh! And, before I forget, Grampa Ched, ( my dear old Dad), called me after his supper tonight. Damn! He's such a cutie! He misses the kids, and wants me to "send" them to him. Guess I got to get on the horn and put a bug in Guav's ear! Dad is sounding soooo good these days. It does my heart good to talk to him and hear the improvement.
