Well gang, Guavmom spent the better part of yesterday, and some of this morning, with scissors, Mod Podge decoupage glue, and two National Wildlife Federation catalogs, working on the 3-D art postcard project I wrote about a few days ago. My friend, Ladystitch, out in California sent me an "art trading card" last weeek. Hers was a fabric collage on the back of a postcard. Since most of my cool fabrics are buried deep in the bowels of my yet to be unpacked crafts room, I had to make a paper collage instead.
First, I traced my birdhouse pattern that I made this weekend, onto a piece of brown wrapping paper I have on hand as much to make my own patterns on, as for shipping packages. Then I did like we used to do in Kindygarten, and got down with my catalogs and cut out pictures. I even pasted some sky printed fabric onto the roof sections, before drawing on them with colored pencils that are blendable when moistened. I drew a pond with reeds and cattails, and inhabited it with a Great Blue Heron, a a mallard, and a swan, as well as a trout jumping out of the water, perilously close to the Heron. Then I sketched a tree overhanging the pond. The other side of the roof was a scene with two eagles flying overhead.
The rest is a melange of garden and bird themes. The front has a female cardinal perched on a berrry wreath surrounding the entance to her "Home Tweet Home". Each surface has a different collage. It was boodles of fun, and ends up being interactive, since the house has to be assembled by the recipient, utilizing the tabs and slots I incorporated into its construction.
Gotta jet. Corlin and Autumn are coming over this afternoon to watch my RIVERDANCE tape with me. Next week we're going to Elmira to see Eileen Ivers, the preeminent Celtic fiddler featured on this video, and her band, Immigrant Soul. I saw them at the Clemmens Center in Corning a few years ago with my friend, Sandy, and they're awesome. Girl's night out, minus the shopping. I think that Autumn will freak out. I can already picture her 4 year old self dancing in the aisles. The music is THAT infectious, and she's THAT exuberant!
Guav and Bea went out to Bay Ridge to visit Grampa Ched this weekened. He's out of the hospital, and back at home. I don't know what the next step is. Guav might know, but I'm watiting for him to post an entry and photos. All I know is how very delighted Dad was to have the kids visiting, and to pose for pictures. No shrinking violet he! So, as soon as I klnow what's going on we can deluge the old coot with greeting cards and such.
Later y'all!
