BACKSIDE Turns or rotations in the direction your toes point towards, so that your back is facing the outside of the wave's arc.
BACKSIDE AIR Getting up in the air with your back to the wave.
BACKWASH The rush of water coming off the shore against incoming waves.
BACKDOOR Pulling into a tube from behind the peak. Also the name of a wave in Hawai'i near Pipeline.
BACKHAND Surfing with your back to the wave.
BAIL To escape immediately - to abandon your board with out thinking about the consequence.
BANANA HAMMOCK Speedos, taboo in the surfing world, definately not to be worn while surfing! See also budgie smugglers.
BANK A sandbank on which waves break. One of the three types of breaks, can be a left, a right or an A Frame setup. See also Reef Break, Beachie, Point Break.
BARREL When the waves comes over your head and covers you, inside the wave and surfing. The inside of a hollow wave (same as tube).
BEACHIE/BEACH BREAK Waves formed by swell hitting a sandbank,or sandy beach causing waves to break.
BEACH BUM Someone who basicly lives at the beach.
BITCHEN' 1. cool, great totally sick. ie. "That wave's bitchen."
BLANK A block of foam from which a surfboard is made. The bit inside the fibreglass.
BLOWN OUT Term for choppy surf resulting from onshore winds.
BONUS! Said when someone does something great in addition to something normal. Often used sarcasticlly
BOOGER Someone who rides a body board. Same as a sponger or boogie boarder.
BOOGIE BOARD(also known as bodyboard) A soft foam board ridden on the belly.
BRAINFREEZE Describes what you feel in your head and sinus cavity immediately after the first duck-dive when paddling out in COLD water.
BUDGIE SMUGGLERS Speedos. See also Banana Hammock.
BUMMER Huge let down. Upset about something.
BUMP A small swell.
BUMPS Wax build-up on the board's deck.
BUMPY When there is a light wind on the waves making the water look like it has lumps. See also glassy, blown out and choppy.
BUSTED Caught red handed.
