1) Not really, no. Air movement isn't noticeable. But I don't have a very big kitchen, so even if the spread isn't wide, it's still very noticeable. Even if we do this in the sink, it gets on all the counters, drying rack, and floor around the sink.
2) Tried that a couple times. But carrying a pitcher of water across the white living room carpet and the back across it without spilling red drink all over it (not to mention dealing with the blinds and security locks on the door) ended up being more troublesome and risky that we were comfortable with.
I kinda figured as much since your place is basically like the one we game in.
Hadn't thought about the hazards of carrying across the carpet. :P
Perhaps us using a gallon container and a name brand is the reason we don't see to much powder going everywhere. I'm still amazed that you see it on the floor. Tell the zebra to quit being so messy or his stripes will turn pink. ;)

1. Is there much air movement in your kitchen? An AC vent or fan nearby might be a culprit.
2. Take it outside. A pain in the tail but you could mix on the deck. Of course as windy as it is here that might be even worse.
