Rose bullied her way out of the clinic early the next morning. It was more difficult than she'd expected, but she played the sympathy card and the 'no, really, I'm totally better, pay no attention to that stumbling' card to everyone she came across, and finally she'd managed to get to the cells where Victor was being held

Running toward the pair, silver stake in hand, Dimitri had been all too aware of what had happened when they'd found Mr. Nagy's body drained of blood. If someone on campus had gone Strigoi, they'd be headed to free Victor and it was his duty to stop them.

And suddenly behind Natalie, Rose saw Dimitri charging down the hall like Death in a cowboy duster.

She couldn't help smiling.

Natalie spun around to meet this new threat. She was so much faster than she'd ever been in life, so much faster than human, and she lashed out, trying to take out Dimitri as soon as he got close enough.

As a former Moroi student, she was untrained and Dimitri had his own speed, allowing him to avoid her attack. He circled the Strigoi, swinging a strong fist at her face.

Natalie hissed, her head snapping back at the hit, and she staggered for a moment. She'd never taken a hit before.

With a snarl of fury, she tried to close with him, slamming a backhand towards his face.

She was clearly stronger, and he took the hit, leaping back with far more grace that the situation really allowed, attempting to graze her hitting arm with the stake in the process.

She backed off in shock, holding her arm in shock from the burning of the charmed silver.

For a moment, maybe there may have been a scared teenager instead of the bloodthirsty Strigoi. But only a flicker of a second as she leaped at him again, using strength and speed to try to make up for her lack of training.

Dimitri took the opening she gave him, stake hand flashing out with speed, sharp pointed end going for her heart.

Natalie didn't have a chance, and she screamed as the silver streak that was the stake, pierced her ribcage and went into her heart.

She collapsed to the ground, still screaming.

Yanking the stake out as quickly as he'd plunged it in, Dimitri's face was completely emotionless as she screamed. He made his way to Rose's side quickly, leaning way, way down to pick her up.

"Hey Comrade," Rose murmured, not really able to keep him from picking her up. "You were kinda badass there."

His face cracked a small smile for her, glad she was conscious for the moment. "You know you shouldn't be down here." It wasn't judgment, he was sure she had a good reason for it. "Hey, eyes open, Rose."

The world had started to darken as her eyelids closed, and Rose forced her eyes open again at his words. She couldn't figure out why he seemed worried. "Was he right?" she murmured, still halfway to unconsciousness.

"Who?" Dimitri asked, hoping to keep her talking and therefore awake as he carried her briskly to the clinic.

"Victor," Rose whispered, her eyes shutting again without her notice. And if she knew what she was saying she'd hope not to remember. "He said the - necklace couldn't work. The spell."

"What do you mean?" Dimitri asked, trying to wake her up.
