419 - Early Wednesday Afternoon
Fumbling slightly, she tried to rip open the weird letter at the same time as she read the return address. Managing only the first, she pulled a thick envelope out of the packaging and ripped that open in turn. The letter was barely a paragraph on plain white paper but the packet with it held airplane tickets, and Rose read the short letter breathlessly.
Miss Hathaway,
You are required to report to Saint Vladimir’s Academy immediately for evaluation and consideration of your future as a guardian trainee.

Rose stared at the letter, her hands almost shaking as she flipped back to inspect the tickets more closely. They were for today - for just a few hours from now so in eight hours or so, she’d be back at St. Vlad’s, back with Lissa, back and she wasn’t going to let them send her away again.
The broad smile that had spread over her face dimmed at the thought of that short time before her plane. When she’d let herself think about the end of the summer, Rose had thought she’d stay till the end of the break week, the end of classes at least, not immediately after her last class. Enough time to say goodbye to the people here. It didn’t matter though. Being back in her proper place to protect and take care of Lissa meant more than anything else. They come first.
She started to collect her things quickly, throwing a few pictures and clothes into a bag. She didn’t have much anyway, and anything she left could be sent on back to Montana. As she packed, she made a few phone calls.
