A Little Blue House, Paris, Kentucky | Tuesday Night

Rose sat on the porch of a little blue house in Paris, Kentucky and tried to tally up where to go next. Eventually, Dimitri sought Rose out, hoping to trade places and get her some much-needed rest now that he'd spent a little time talking with Sonya. The transformation was still amazing to him. To think that was what it had been like with him, the flash of light and magic and...life.

It left Dimitri with plenty to think about.

"Go rest," he suggested gently, taking a seat beside her.

Rose looked up at him, unable not to smile a little in greeting no matter what the situation was. "You're the one supposed to be sleeping right now," she pointed out. "I'm fine to keep watch."

"I'm too amped up to sleep," Dimitri admitted. "It's a lot to take in."

Yeah, like how it was all amazing and shit, but Sonya still wouldn't give up the information they came for. Rose tried not to say anything like that. It probably wasn't the nicest thing ever.

"Is she doing okay?"

"As well as I would expect," he replied. "But I'm not comfortable with pressing her for the information we need. She's been through a lot and we need to be patient." Even if Rose's life was on the line.

Rose pulled her knees up to her chin, wincing a little as some of the scrapes from the recent fights pulled. "We're being patient," she said, some of that frustration apparent in her voice.

"What would you do, torture her for it now if she's unwilling?" Dimitri asked gently, reaching out to rest his hand on her arm.

Her arm almost burned where he was touching it, and Rose had to fight to keep from looking down. "No, of course not," she said instantly.

But - Dimitri would have been able to give them the information necessary right after Lissa turned him back.

"But you won't even let us ask her."

"You know what she's going through," he reminded Rose. "You remember what it was like, the difference between then and now and why..." Dimitri really didn't want to point out his sleeping issues.

She did know. And Sonya wasn't a guardian, trained to fight through everything. But they couldn't play house forever. If only because it was creepy with Victor and Robert.

Rose shifted to slip her hand into his. "That why you're still up?" she asked softly.

Dimitri nodded, squeezing her hand a little. "I lost control back there. With Donovan. I don't want that to happen again."

"More likely to happen if you're overtired," Rose pointed out, reiterating the lessons she'd been taught. She turned to look up at him. "But it's okay. I know you won't."

"You can't know," he said with a sad shake of his head. He didn't even know himself, even if what he'd seen with Sonya had given him the tiniest kernel of hope. Like if something half as wonderful had happened to him, maybe his salvation wasn't a waste of Lissa's gifts after all.

"Maybe I've just got more faith in you," she murmured. And, well, if he did lose it, Rose would way rather his lose it on Strigoi. "Trust me."

"I don't even have to think about trusting you, Rose," Dimitri admitted. He couldn't think of a reason Rose wouldn't be the first person he would trust in a situation.

She couldn't help the little smile at that. "See? So just do what I say and we'll be totally fine," she joked.
