Being on call was just as boring as it sounded. Dimitri was dressed in a typical guardian black suit with his hair pulled back in a ponytail, his stake holstered in place, and his cell charged and ready for the ringtone of duty at any moment.
...
Any moment.
With no roommate in sight, Dimitri lounged on the excessively floral furniture of the living room, 'reading' to pass the hours while he waited for Adrian's call. Where the definition of 'reading' meant scanning the pages of a book with his eyes while thinking about something completely different. It didn't bode well for his comprehension, that was certain.
His thoughts drifted from the descriptions of rugged cowboys passing through scared towns like so much dust to a certain dark-haired girl and all the inappropriate affections he felt for her. Dimitri shook his head and blinked, refocusing on his novel for another minute or two before he realized he was four pages away, mentally reviewing the requests he needed to complete to start the field experience process. He shifted positions on the couch and checked his phone for battery and signal before sighing and finding the point in his book where he'd stopped paying attention again.
Yeah, it was going to be a long, boring night. Kind of typical.
