Protecting Rose was on the forefront of Dimitri's mind as he packed and mentally prepared himself for the trial to come. He knew their relationship was complicated and that at the end of the day, it was his fault there was anything between them. He was supposed to have been the
adult here, the one who
always said no, who always shut her down and kept things between them
work-related and never
too personal.
But love came
too easily and
fighting Rose when she wanted something was
nearly impossible, but Dimitri had
done his best to
deny his heart. That had all changed when he'd
seen her blood-soaked and broken, clinging to a rusted sword. Dimitri had realized just
what he had to lose and
things had gone
too far.
Now he was off to face Victor Dashkov, the only one in their world who knew from his own canny observations that there had ever been even a spark between teacher and student. Dimitri would keep up the lie they had told about the spell and Victor would go to jail. This was the only sequence of events he would accept.
Satisfied with his packing, Dimitri showered and changed for bed, knowing at the same time in two days he'd be at Court and he'd have all the answers he needed.
