Wow, it's been WAYYYY too long!
LJ's certainly gotten the short end of the stick lately. Blegh.
Well, a few of us went to see The Hobbit in the theatre yesterday. I'm still not terribly keen on movies at the theatre, but it was nice to revisit Middle Earth again after all this time. See, I love The Hobbit (the book, that is) and I never made it through much of the Lord of the Rings trilogy (again, the books). So when the movies came out way back in college, it was unfamiliar territory. Now, I grudgingly went to see this flick with no small amount of fear. I hate it when films corrupt my memory of books, and this was a big deal. On the one hand, most of the settings were entirely unlike my imagination, which irked me. Laketown, specifically, was like watching the Dwarves and token Hobbit enter some sort of parallel dimension where Laketown had merged with the pirate town from Hook. On the other hand, it was quite fun to watch the dwarves hack at giant spiders and pleasantly nostalgic to see Mr. Bloom slaughter Orc after Orc while looking fantastic! So all-in-all, I'm grateful I made the effort. A year from now, I wouldn't mind getting the whole Hobbit trilogy on HD and enjoy a nice back-to-back marathon session of them. I mean, I'm pretty sure I should be smoking my pipe during this sort of film, eh?
