“You have absolutely got to be shitting me.”

Even in the dark, Heather turned her face away, her cheeks ablaze with a deep blush. “No.”

“He's been dead for YEARS, 'Eather. It's called moving on. You really ought to try it.”

Heather frowned into her hotel pillow case. “That's easy enough for you to say, Aurora. You don't understand. James was--”

“Very special, ouais, I know. We ALL know. You talk endlessly about him.”

Heather frowned and risked a glance over at the other bed where the other woman lay. They hadn't expected the only hotel in Eagle Hat to be nearly full up, but it turned out there was a hunting convention in town and they were lucky to get a double. She could barely make out Aurora's shape, outlined against the faint light coming from the parking lot outside. She was leaning on one elbow, no doubt regarding her with those piercing blue eyes. Thankfully Heather couldn't see them between the low light and the fact that her glasses were on the nightstand.

“I loved him,” she replied stiffly.

“I repeat: it's called moving on. You should start dating again. Or at LEAST making love. Good Lord, you don't want it to shrivel up.”

Heather snorted in spite of herself.

“You don't 'ave to find Mr. Right. You don't ever even have to fall in love again. But you can't live in the past.”

Heather was silent for quite some time, finally mustering up the courage to speak again once she'd put her thoughts in order.

“Have you ever been in love? ...Aurora?”

She looked over at the other bed again to see the shape had changed; Aurora was laying down, apparently asleep.

Heather sighed and rolled back over, closing her eyes.

Asleep, or avoiding the question. She supposed they both could be doing either.
